If so, sign up for one of our workshops designed to help you in your job search.

Please read about all the workhops offered and decide which ones are relevant for you. You must be registered with WFBC (read more about registering), then you may sign up for these workshops by meeting with one of our Employment Advisors. For the workshops you would like to attend, please take them in this step-by-step order.



Step 1: Define you job/career goals

Career Exploration
1 Day

Do you know that most people change careers five to seven times in a lifetime? This workshop is designed to provide you with the tools for navigating career exploration, including: personality & interest assessments, values clarification, and career research. You will also identify your transferable skills and learn how to conduct valuable informational interviews.

Step 2: Prepare your career marketing materials
ReZOOM Your Resume
1 Day — It is recommended that you have a clear career direction before taking this class.

Do the dates of you employment go back more than ten years? Do you include the dates of your education? Avoid these mistakes and get in the know with this workshop where you will learn the latest in resume writing trends and techniques. Generic resumes are out; learn how to target your resume to a specific position to get the employer’s attention. This class includes tips on formatting and writing your resume, creating attention-getting cover letters, and creating reference sheets.

"Walk In" Resume Critiques — First Come, First Served

This "quick" service is for clients who need a minimal critique and are comfortable reworking their resume.

Note: The "Rezoom Your Resume" workshop is recommended for those who need more extensive help.

Step 3: Network and build relationships

Creative Job Search Techniques
1 Day

Are you wondering where the jobs are? Are you aware that most jobs are never advertized? Do you know how to get your foot in the door? In this workshop you will learn and practice many effective ways to get information about jobs and target job openings. Learn how to conduct informational interviews and other methods to maximize your job search

LinkedIn® 1 - Getting Started on LinkedIn
2 Hours — Must take LinkedIn 1 class before LinkedIn 2

New to LinkedIn? Not sure what to do? Unsure if social media networking is right for you? This workshop will cover how to create a professional profile, set privacy settings, and access the learning center. We will provide a laptop computer to access your LinkedIn account during the workshop.

Note: Go to LinkedIn.com and set up an account prior to attending the workshop. Bring your e-mail address, your email password, and your LinkedIn password with you to class.

LinkedIn 2 - Using LinkedIn for Job Search
2 Hours — LinkedIn 1 is a prerequisite of LinkedIn 2

Would you like a few tips on using LinkedIn more effectively? LinkedIn is a powerful tool to help you find jobs, link with other professionals in your field, connect with former co-workers, and research prospective employers. Learn how LinkedIn can increase your network and greatly increase your prospects while looking for a position. We will provide a laptop computer to access your LinkedIn account during the workshop.

Step 4: Be ready for the interview

What’s Your Interview IQ?
4 consecutive half days — You must be able to attend all four half days.

Come face the dreaded interview in our WfBC Interviewing Workshop! We will walk you through those grueling questions and share the secret technique that will help you increase your confidence for interviews. We cover the 7 steps of an interview, difficult interview questions, and how to communicate your skills effectively to the interviewer.

Note: There will be 1-2 hours of homework after each of the first two days of the workshop.


50+ WORKSHOPS

Note: The following workshops can be taken in any order.

Transition, Transform, Transcend for 50+ Clients
1 day

In this workshop, we explore the challenges and benefits of the 50+ experience as it relates to attitudes, perceptions and the four generations now in the workplace. Come watch “The Make or Break Attitude” interview video and rejuvenate that job search enthusiasm!

50+ Networking Presentations
1 ½ Hours

A monthly meeting for WfBC registered clients 50 and over. The Networking Presentations showcase speakers from area employers and organizations, as well as information on interesting job search topics. It also provides opportunities to network. We have a different speaker/topic each month, so plan to attend as many presentations as you would like.


SELF-DIRECTED LABS

If you need to increase or update your computer skills, or learn Microsoft Office, you can train in the Self-Directed Labs in Longmont or Boulder. SDLs are usually scheduled three times per week, and offer flexible, self-paced training using computer-delivered tutorials in Windows, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Self-directed labs are held at various times throughout the week. Contact our offices to learn of specific times.


• Registration with our Employment Advising services team in either the Boulder or Longmont office is required prior to attending a workshop.

All workshops are free. Pre-registration is required to hold your place in class due to limited space. At registration, you will be asked to leave a telephone number where you can be reached. Classes will be held unless five or fewer individuals have signed up to attend. You will be notified by phone if a class is cancelled and/or rescheduled. PARTICIPANT CANCELLATIONS MUST BE MADE WITHIN 24 HOURS PRIOR TO THE START OF CLASS.
